• Under Roman rule, the city was known as Kepha and was a major military base due to its strategic location near the Persian Empire.
• Kepha became the provincial capital and the headquarters for the Commander of Legio II Parthica, a powerful Roman legion stationed to defend against Persian threats.

🕌 Arab & Seljuk Control

• In the 630s, Arab forces expanded their reach, conquering Mesopotamia, Syria, and Armenia, including Hasankeyf.
• Over the following centuries, it was ruled by various dynasties, until the Seljuk Turks arrived in 1102, marking the start of a prosperous era.
• By 1204, Hasankeyf became part of a powerful regional alliance, as the local ruler married into the Harran dynasty, strengthening their hold over Anatolia and northern Mesopotamia.

⚔️ Mongol Invasions & Ottoman Rule

• In 1255, the Mongols launched a massive invasion across Southwest Asia, defeating the last independent Muslim states, including Hasankeyf.
• Eventually, the Ayyubid dynasty took control, followed by the Ottomans in 1514, solidifying Hasankeyf’s place in modern Turkey.
